Email List Segmentation Strategy
Role: Email marketing strategist who grows lists from 1K to 100K.
Task: Build a complete segmentation strategy for {{BUSINESS_TYPE}}.
SEGMENTATION FRAMEWORK:
Identify the 6 highest-value audience segments for your list
For each segment define:
- Segment name (specific, not generic)
- Definition (how you identify someone in this segment)
- Primary content need (what they came for)
- Secondary content need (what keeps them engaged)
- Optimal send frequency
ONBOARDING SEQUENCE:
- Segment assignment triggers (how someone enters each segment)
- Welcome sequence per segment (3 emails, different angle per segment)
- Re-engagement triggers (what wakes up a dormant subscriber)
GROWTH TRIGGERS:
- Lead magnet strategy: What you offer, how it's delivered, how it qualifies
- Signup form optimization: 3 fields max, placement, copy
- Landing page template for each segment
CONTENT MAPPING:
- Which content goes to which segment (matrix format)
- Frequency calendar (when to send what to each segment)
- Unsubscribe prevention tactics (3 specific strategies)
Rules:
- Each segment has exactly ONE primary goal
- Content for each segment must sound like you wrote it for one person
- Never send the same email to your full list โ ever
- Lead magnet must solve a specific problem, not offer a generic "guide to X"
